Childrens’ Program
Children’s Religious Education, 2008-2009
CURRICULUM: This year we will be utilizing the “Tapestry of Faith: Creating Home” curriculum. All of the program content can be accessed at http://www.uua.org/tapestryoffaith. This is a UU approved curriculum that teaches UU values and principles. It is designed to help children “develop a sense of home that is grounded in faith”. We will introduce the concept of the “faith home” and discuss how our congregation (like a home) offers its members certain jobs, protections, and responsibilities.
WHOLE CHURCH WORSHIP: On the 4th Sunday of each month, we will have
Whole Church Worship. Children in grades 1 and up will remain upstairs for the duration of the service. The purpose of Whole Church Worship is to help our youth to feel more
included and more involved in the congregation as a whole. We would like the children to
be involved in the service in some capacity, whether they are doing readings or simply
displaying art projects completed throughout the month. Again this year, we will provide
“Busy Bags” full of quiet activities for our younger children during this service.
TEACHERS/VOLUNTEERS: This year we will have three teachers who will rotate
throughout the month to cover the class. Based on discussion with the RE Committee,
it was decided that we should have another adult or older teen volunteer to help with the
class each week. This additional person will not be responsible for preparing or teaching
the class, but will assist the teacher as needed. We have found that it is helpful to have
another person to assist the younger students with art projects, help with discipline issues,
emergencies, etc. We will have a sign-up sheet downstairs for volunteers to sign up on
a weekly basis. *If we do not have a volunteer for that day, we will request help during
announcements a parent may be asked to step in to help out. Please feel free to contact the
RE teachers with any questions or concerns!
